Exterior Wood Table

An exterior wood table (also often called an outdoor wood table or garden wood table) is a table designed specifically for outdoor use, constructed from wood that can withstand variable weather conditions—rain, sun, humidity, possibly frost. These tables can be dining tables, coffee tables, side or accent tables meant to sit on patios, terraces, decking, or in gardens. The wood used is selected (and treated) to resist rot, moisture damage, insect attack and warping, more so than typical interior tables.

Design Context

An exterior wood table adds natural warmth and texture to outdoor living spaces. It might be central to garden dining areas, an alfresco lounge, or used alongside outdoor seating. Depending on the style, it can fit rustic, farmhouse, Scandinavian, traditional, tropical or modern garden themes.

• Rustic / farmhouse styles benefit from simple plank-tops, chunky legs, sometimes even a weathered or reclaimed wood aesthetic.

• Tropical or coastal themes often use exotic hardwoods (teak, itauba etc.) or woods that naturally resist moisture and have a golden-brown patina.

• Minimal / modern gardens may favour clean, smooth wooden tops paired with metal or powder-coated legs for contrast.

• Covered patios / sunrooms offer some protection so finishes or woods that are somewhat less durable outdoors can still perform well if sheltered.

Wood brings a tactile quality that metal or plastic often lacks. It ages attractively in many cases, turning a silvery grey in sun and weather unless you want to maintain rich tones through maintenance.
