Framed Wall Art: Choosing Scale, Format and a Balanced Arrangement
A square painting, a tall canvas and a pair of small framed illustrations fill a wall in different ways. Start with the area you want the arrangement to occupy, then compare the outer dimensions of the artwork. Include the gaps between pieces when planning a pair or group.

| Artwork | Listed outer W × H | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Antica Oil Painting | 80 × 80 cm | Square painting; hand-painted finish. |
| Echo Framed Canvas | 70 × 100 cm | Portrait canvas with a light-wood-coloured frame. |
| Petiole Art Set of 2 | 22 × 27 cm listed per-format dimensions | Two small foliage designs; confirm individual piece dimensions before hanging. |
Make a paper template
Cut paper or use low-tack tape to mark the outer frame. View it from the doorway and the main seat, and check that lamps or tall furniture do not obscure it. Above a console, measure the full arrangement against the console’s width rather than comparing just one piece.
As an illustration, two 22 cm-wide frames with an 8 cm gap occupy 52 cm overall. That can suit a smaller wall area than an 80 cm square painting. Change the gap on your template until the arrangement looks balanced in your room.
Check the hanging details
The Echo listing specifies portrait orientation and a sawtooth fixing; Petiole uses hanging loops and is also described for portrait display. Check the supplied fixings, the artwork’s weight and what is suitable for your wall construction. A hook description alone does not confirm that a particular wall fixing is appropriate.
Choose the finish you want to live with
Antica is hand-painted, so individual pieces can show variation. Canvas texture, glass reflections and frame colour also change the effect in a room. Browse wall art and contact us if you need a product’s finish or measurements clarified.
