Living-Room Ornaments: Scale, Useful Objects and Display Space
Choose a few objects around the surface and the room, rather than filling every available space. A useful tray or a pair of bookends can form part of the display. Start by deciding what the furniture still needs to do: hold a drink, store books, or leave space for a lamp.

| Object | Listed size | A practical role |
|---|---|---|
| Ankara Gold Finish Bowl | H25 × W37 × D37 cm | A substantial footed bowl, described as a drinks cooler. |
| Rhino Bookends | H31 × W16 × D11 cm listed | A sculptural bookend set in aluminium and marble. |
| Reign Silver Finish Tray | H7 × W46 × D31 cm | A mirrored tray for grouping smaller objects. |
Compare the object with the surface
A 37 cm-wide bowl is a large object on a shallow console. Check its base and the full outline, then leave room for the other things you need. A 31 cm-tall bookend can also interfere with the shelf above, so measure the clear opening.
Build a small group with different heights
Try one taller object with a lower tray and leave an area of tabletop empty. View the arrangement from the main seat as well as from the doorway. Keep objects below important sightlines if the display stands between people talking.
Keep the use within the specification
A decorative finish does not establish that an object is suitable for direct food contact, water, a lit candle or high temperatures. Check the exact instructions before using it that way. For a fireplace or mantel, follow the appliance manufacturer’s clearances and keep ornaments away from heat and flame.
Use the current product care instructions for each finish: mirrored glass, metal and marble need different attention. Explore home accessories and our tray planning guide for more ways to organise a display.
