Choosing a Glass Display Cabinet: Doors, Shelves and Fit
Choose a glass display cabinet around the objects you want to see through its doors and the space you need to take them out. Overall dimensions establish the furniture’s footprint; the clear door opening and usable shelf space determine whether your glassware, ceramics or ornaments fit.
Start with a short inventory: the tallest piece, the widest piece including handles, and any groups you want to display together. Then compare enclosed display layouts rather than choosing by outside size alone.

Compare two enclosed layouts
| Cabinet | Overall W × D × H | Listed storage |
|---|---|---|
| Marcella 2 Glass Doors Cabinet | 58 × 32 × 131 cm | Two glass-fronted doors and two shelves. Assembly required. |
| Eichholtz Bar Cabinet Connaught | 110 × 60 × 150 cm | Two clear glass doors. The manufacturer specifies six shelves—five fixed and one adjustable—and five drawers. |
Connaught is 52 cm wider and 28 cm deeper than Marcella. Mark both footprints on the floor if you are comparing them for the same position. Those differences describe the outside furniture dimensions; they do not tell you the usable space in a particular compartment.
Connaught’s divided storage can help separate different items, while Marcella offers a smaller footprint with a simpler shelf layout. Check each intended object against the relevant compartment before deciding which arrangement works for your collection.
Measure the route through the doors
A vase may fit on a shelf yet be awkward to move through its doorway. Ask for the clear opening with the doors at their normal open position, allowing for the frame, hinges and any central divider. Compare that opening with the object’s widest point, including handles or a lid.
Check the clear height above each shelf and the usable depth with the doors closed. Include any stand or tray used beneath an object. For adjustable shelving, confirm the adjustment range and which shelves move: Connaught’s specification identifies only one adjustable shelf, so its other compartments should be planned around their fixed positions.
The published specifications for these examples do not include internal shelf dimensions or shelf-load limits. Ask our team for the current measurements and manufacturer’s load guidance before ordering for a specific collection. The cabinet’s overall weight, glass type and product photographs do not establish a shelf’s capacity.
Leave room to open, reach and clean
Alongside the footprint, plan the doors’ opening space and a standing position from which you can reach inside comfortably. Check nearby dining chairs, room doors and walking routes. If a cabinet will sit beside a wall or other furniture, confirm how far its doors must open to access the shelves or drawers.
Look at the intended position from where you usually sit or stand. Door frames and reflections can affect which objects are visible. Keep frequently used glasses within comfortable reach and allow space to remove one without moving the whole display. Glass doors enclose the contents, but do not assume a cabinet is airtight, dustproof or lockable unless its specification confirms that feature.
Check delivery access and installation
Compare the delivery route with the packed dimensions and the supplier’s handling requirements. For Connaught, the manufacturer lists a carton measuring 118 × 65 × 174 cm, which is larger than the finished cabinet. Check doorways, turns, stairs and the space available for unpacking.
Marcella requires assembly. Connaught’s specification says no assembly is required, and its separate instructions show anti-tipping installation. Follow the instructions supplied with the exact cabinet and use fixings suitable for the wall construction. Confirm any missing installation details before positioning and loading it.
