Luxury Dining Tables: Size, Materials and Seating
Choosing a dining table starts with the space people will use around it. A generous top is useful only when chairs can pull out, guests can move past them and the table can reach the room on delivery. These three examples from our dining range show how shape, extension and base design change that decision.

Compare the table at its full size
| Table | Listed length × depth × height | Construction and layout |
|---|---|---|
| Tavamo Dining Table - Oval - Walnut | 240 × 110 × 76cm | Walnut veneer; oval top and pedestal base. |
| Lantine 280 Dining Table - Black Oak & Brass | 280 × 120 × 76cm | Black oak veneer; twin pedestal base and curved corners. |
| Dunbar Extending Dining Table | 200 or 250 × 100 × 75cm | Extending rectangular table; material listed as Mindy Ash. |
The Dunbar changes from 200cm to 250cm long, so mark out both settings. Tavamo offers a fixed oval footprint; Lantine needs more room in both directions. Pedestal positions also matter: check where each diner’s knees and chair legs will sit rather than relying on the overall length alone.
Test the layout with your actual chairs
Use masking tape to mark the top on the floor, then place your chairs around that outline. For an illustrative layout allowing 90cm beyond every edge, the 240 × 110cm Tavamo occupies a 420 × 290cm planning area. That is an example allowance, not a guarantee of access: doors, sideboards, chair depth and the routes through your room can require a different arrangement.
Check arm heights against the underside of the table. Dunbar’s listing gives 62.5cm clearance to the floor, which is a separate measurement from its 75cm overall height. A chair can be low enough at the seat yet too tall at the arms to tuck underneath.
Choose the finish for the room you already have
Walnut veneer brings a warmer brown tone; black oak gives a darker anchor. Compare a finish with your floor and dining chairs in daylight, and read the material description carefully: a veneer finish describes a different construction from solid timber. Use the product’s care instructions for its particular surface.
Check the delivery route before ordering
Measure the narrowest doorway, tight turns, stair landings and the final room entrance. Tavamo’s top and base are delivered in separate cartons, but its tabletop still measures 240 × 110cm. Ask for packaged dimensions and assembly information if access is close.
Once the table and chair layout is settled, use our table-setting guide to plan placemats, pack quantities and space for glasses and serving dishes.
