Pendant Lights: Diameter, Adjustable Drop and Ceiling Height
A pendant’s diameter tells you how much space it fills across a room; its fitted drop determines where it sits below the ceiling. Check both. Some designs offer a short telescopic adjustment, while others can hang much lower. Neither can be judged reliably from an isolated product photograph.

| Pendant | Listed diameter | Listed height adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| Charterhouse Pendant | 56 cm | 37–49 cm; telescopic central stem. |
| Cleckheaton Pendant | 68 cm | 60–191.5 cm; aged-bronze-effect fitting and fabric shades. |
Work back from your room measurements
Measure floor to ceiling at the fitting position and note any table or island beneath it. In an illustrative room with a 240 cm ceiling, a 49 cm drop places the bottom of a fitting at 191 cm above the floor. That calculation helps you visualise it; it is not an installation clearance recommendation. Your installer should confirm a suitable position and the manufacturer’s requirements.
Decide how the light should behave
Charterhouse uses one broad shade and a fabric diffuser, while Cleckheaton has five smaller fabric shades. Think about the view from seated positions and whether the fitting forms part of the room’s general lighting or sits over a specific surface. Bulb output and the room layout also affect the result.
Check bulbs and fitting requirements
The listings specify three E27 lamps for Charterhouse and five E14 golf lamps for Cleckheaton, with bulbs not included. Confirm the exact current lamp ratings, dimmer compatibility and ceiling support requirements with the product instructions and installer before purchase.
Browse ceiling lights and our coordinating ceiling and wall lights guide if you are choosing several fittings for the same room.
